Female Authors from North-East India : you'll love to know about them (part1)

 

Northeast, the land of unbound beauty and natural resources, also offers harmonious collection of poems,stories,translation in several local and English language. And of no doubt the female proportion makes a wide grip in the field of literature from the northeast.

Today's list includes - Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland

Janice Pariat

 This outstanding writer from the beautiful state of Meghalaya is not only young, but also very promising. Her most famous books include "Boats on Land: A Collection of short Stories" : a novel , Seahorse and Nine chambered Heart. In 2013, she was the first Meghalaya english writer to receive the Sahitya Akademie Young Writer Award; she also won the 2013 Crossword Award.

writing style- In "Boats on Land", Pariat's story takes place between Shillong, Cherrapunji and Assam, a fictitious reinterpretation of the changes that have taken place in northeastern India in the three centuries since the 1850s . Pariat-style events have been compared to magical realism, as is Haruki Murakami's work.

Temsula Ao 

Temsula Ao is an english poet, scholar and writer from India, and is widely regarded as one of the main writers in Northeast India, Nagaland. She wrote five volumes of poems, and her work reflects the suffering and longing of her community, naga. She recently published a new novel" Aosenla's Story" set in Nagaland. It tells the story of the life of Aosenla, a woman who tries to deal with herself. Her collection of short stories "Laburnum for My Head" won the Sahitya Academy Award in 2013. she also won the prestigious Padma Shri Award.

Jahnavi Barua

Jahnavi Baruah is an Indian writer living in Assam. He wrote "Neighborhood", a acclaimed collection of short stories set in Assam and set in rebels. Her other work includes Rebirth (2010), Undertow ( 2020). The author received several awards in both national and international level and being shortlisted for the prestigious Man Asian Literature prize (2011)
